Backup lighting and power supply for learning centers
The fundraiser is now closed! The results and report are available here.

In January 2026, savED raised funds for charging stations and LED lighting equipment for educational centers established by the foundation at educational institutions.

The need is critical in 60 out of 128 learning centers currently operating with the foundation’s support in Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, and Kherson regions.

The purchase and integrated use of power stations and LED equipment will provide backup power and lighting sufficient to ensure the continuity of the educational process.

What happened?
Darkness stops learning
Ukraine is experiencing one of the most challenging winters for its energy system since the start of the full-scale war.

Due to regular attacks on energy infrastructure, millions of people are left without electricity every day — sometimes for hours, sometimes for a full day or longer.

For educational institutions — and, consequently, for the foundation’s learning centers operating on their premises — this means constant uncertainty and dependence on the electricity supply.

When dusk falls, it becomes impossible to write, read, use gadgets, or play without light. The lack of lighting and backup power is especially uncomfortable in underground spaces without windows.

What are the consequences?
In search of light
A large number of learning centers are forced to operate on reduced schedules, and some have even suspended their activities entirely.

Schools and lyceums use backup power very sparingly, which means that the full operation of learning centers often depends entirely on their ability to function autonomously.

Our goal is to help learning centers become self-sufficient during power outages.

Some of our centers have already been equipped with backup energy sources and lighting thanks to the support of partners and local communities. However, the need remains critical in 60 out of 128 learning centers currently supported by the foundation.

What do we propose?
There is a solution!
The foundation has identified a safe and practical approach that allows learning to continue even in the absence of electricity.

We successfully tested several backup lighting solutions for learning centers. The first option involves using two 100W LED floodlights combined with a power station with a capacity of 1,400–1,700 Wh. An alternative option is the use of four LED lanterns and a 40,000 mAh power bank.

These configurations provide sufficient lighting for conducting full-fledged classes and activities in a learning center.

Higher-capacity power stations will also be helpful, as they can supply power to gadgets and equipment needed to continue educational activities in the centers.

Solution options

We have designed four kits depending on the situation in different centers: some require a full set (floodlights and power stations), others need only power stations or only floodlights (if part of the kit is already available). An additional solution is a set of LED lanterns and power banks.

In some centers, the power situation is extremely critical, so we include higher-capacity power stations to supply not only lighting but also other equipment.

  • Option 1 (small power station + two floodlights) — $700
  • Option 2 (two floodlights) — $160
  • Option 3 (high-capacity power station) — $820
  • Option 4 (4 LED lanterns + large power bank) — $230
You make it possible!

Help us light up children’s learning centers — make a donation to the fundraising jar.

Every contribution matters: when 10 people donate $16, one learning center can already be equipped with two floodlights.
