In communities where school buildings are destroyed or severely damaged, children lose a shared space for in-person learning and connection — something online formats simply cannot replace.
Our mission is to restore this space as quickly as possible and to create temporary yet fully functional conditions for offline learning. To do so, we repurpose surviving buildings, and where no safe facilities remain, we install modern modular schools. This ensures continuity of education and provides places where children can learn, play, build friendships, and feel part of their community — even in the most challenging times.
We transform surviving community buildings into temporary schools.
These are facilities adapted for educational needs when the local school is heavily damaged or completely destroyed, and children cannot return to offline learning.
Classrooms are set up in alternative buildings — for example, in a family medicine clinic in Pervomaiske (Mykolaiv region) or in “houses of culture” in Bohdanivka (Kyiv region) and Chervona Dolyna (Mykolaiv region).
For some communities, savED’s temporary schools remain the only educational spaces close to home. For children who must travel dozens of kilometers to attend classes in a neighboring village, these temporary learning spaces make it possible to study offline in their own community — and to stay connected with friends and teachers.
Modern modular schools are another fast-response solution for restoring offline learning.
These include the TLCs, modular learning spaces developed together with partners under the USAID UNITY program implemented by IREX.
TLCs differ from typical modular units: they are large, comfortable spaces with several classrooms, a teachers’ room, and an inclusive restroom. High ceilings, abundant natural light, heating, and a powerful generator make them convenient for both students and teachers. Most importantly, they can be installed quickly — the construction phase takes about two months.
Our solutions ensure that communities whose schools were destroyed now have small, yet welcoming learning spaces. This gives children a critical opportunity to return to in-person classes, even if it is in small groups or on a shift basis.
Many more communities still need spaces for in-person learning and for children to meet up.
