Bomb shelter
Mala Danylivka — Kharkiv

This year, we opened the first underground educational space in Mala Danylivka, in the Kharkiv region. Thanks to the joint efforts of international foundations, Ukrainian businesses, and hundreds of caring individuals, we raised over $139,000. These funds made it possible to transform an ordinary basement of a local lyceum into a modern and safe space covering 180 square meters, where 456 students will finally have access to a secure underground environment specially designed for extracurricular activities, social interaction, development of social skills, and simple, real-life communication in a comfortable and protected setting.

Project's story
What happened

Mala Danylivka is a frontline village where shelling is heard almost every day. Before the full-scale invasion, there were two schools operating here—one of them was completely destroyed by Russian forces. Without reliable shelters, it was physically impossible for children to return to classrooms.

Over four years of full-scale war, the community has lost a significant share of its children: one in five has gone abroad, and about 20% of families have relocated to other regions. More than a hundred students traveled to Kharkiv every day just to have the chance for in-person interaction. Those who stayed at home found themselves in isolation—without a safe place to meet peers or speak with a teacher.

Project's story
How we helped

To support the community, help families maintain a sense of normalcy despite the war, and give children the opportunity to stay at home, savED launched a systematic effort. The first step was the creation of the EduHives educational space in the lyceum’s underground premises, with the support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The space quickly became a point of attraction: children were drawn to it, teachers gained a place to work, and the community felt that it had not been forgotten.

However, the basement required major renovation to become a fully functional underground center where children could learn and socialize. This is how our large-scale charitable campaign of summer 2025 was born.

Project's story
How it was

It all began in the summer with a series of creative initiatives: a charity evening at the “Lumen” bar featuring Oleksandr Khomenko (MUR), the launch of limited-edition donation-based tattoos by Arley Sign and British Camp, as well as charity workouts organized by the “Stan” studio and MyFGym with the support of ÏDLO, Pie Spot, and Underwood. On the foundation’s anniversary, more than 50 Ukrainian brands joined forces for a совмест giveaway, while JUL co-founder Yuliia Lohvin dedicated her birthday to Mala Danylivka. Thanks to these heartfelt efforts, we raised hundreds of thousands of hryvnias from caring Ukrainians.

In addition, the majority of the funds were raised with the support of the Government of Sweden (SIDA), who believed in the idea from the very beginning. A significant financial contribution that allowed us to fully close the fundraising campaign and bring the space to life was made by United Help Ukraine, the King Baudouin Foundation, Henkel, British Camp, and Roosh.
