Learning centres
EduHives in Kharkiv region
With the support of U-LEAD with Europe Programme, we created and equipped 25 EduHive learning centres in four regions.

This helped restore access to education in small communities in the Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Kyiv regions. EduHives have become hubs for learning and socialising for children and teenagers in towns and villages where there are no other offline learning opportunities.

On this page we tell about EduHives we created in Kharkiv region during the project.

  • Location Kharkiv region
  • Students Approximately 19,000

Region's story
What happened
Since the start of the full-scale war, fighting has continued in the Kharkiv region. Part of the region is occupied.

The Russians continue to shell settlements in the Kharkiv region with rockets and artillery on a daily basis.

Many civilian infrastructure facilities have been destroyed or damaged. The situation with artillery shelling has improved after the liberation of most of the region. However, it remains tense due to the proximity of the border with Russia.

Region's story
Consequences
Due to shelling in the Kharkiv region, 630 educational institutions have been completely destroyed or damaged.

According to the Regional Military Administration, more than 35% of schools in the Kharkiv region have been damaged. Some educational institutions need to be completely rebuilt from scratch.

Many internally displaced children live in communities far from the Russian border since the start of the full-scale war. Like local children, they need safe educational spaces where they can not only study but also spend time and communicate with each other.

Solution
Establishing the centers

EduHive is a place where children study the school curriculum, attend extracurricular classes, and learn to build interpersonal relationships, interact, and resolve conflicts.

The creation of EduHives is especially important in communities where many IDPs live due to the war. After all, it is an opportunity to meet other children, receive support, and feel part of the community.

For children who have been studying online for several years due to the war, it is important to return to school. To attend classes, participate in extracurricular activities, and see their classmates and teachers.

savED’s learning centres provide this opportunity, as they are located in safe spaces and equipped with everything necessary for learning and active recreation.

Our friends and colleagues repaired shelters in schools in Izyum and Balakliya, and we turned them into comfortable spaces for learning and leisure.

In Pechenihy, Brave Foundation restored the roof and porch, and in our EduHive shelter, together with Serhii Zhadan’s foundation, we held poetry events for children and teachers.
