As part of the “Back to School” campaign in the summer of 2023, we launched a fundraising effort to restore school premises and equip shelters in communities where children could not return to in-person learning due to the consequences of the war.
In addition, we decided to support fundraising for projects designed by participants of the UActive program. One of these initiatives came from a team in Borodianka, who dreamed of restoring their school’s sports field, damaged by shelling.

- Students 1500
- Result Student project supported
- Collected ₴945 000
Borodianka was under occupation from February to April 2022.
Active combat operations were conducted in the village.
During the occupation, Russian troops were based in the Borodianka Lyceum building. The building was damaged during the fighting. The blast wave shattered windows and doors and partially disabled the heating system.
As part of the UActive programme from savED, a team of children won a £5,000 grant to implement their project.
The idea is to create a sports area that will become a place for active recreation for community residents and will allow sports competitions, games and contests to be held.
The children also raised an additional €2,000 from sponsors abroad. After that, the team sought additional resources to fully implement the project plan. So we supported them and assembled a super team of donors!
- 380,000 UAH was donated by the US Ukraine Foundation.
- 124,000 UAH was donated by the Reimagine Ukraine Foundation.
To help raise funds for the project, our partners from California joined the annual marathon in San Francisco.
- Another athlete became the project’s ambassador in Borodianka — running coach, opinion leader, and writer Maria Holota. On September 1, 2023, Maria organized a charity run and raised 100,000 UAH for the project.
- The student team took part in the Teachers of the Future educational festival in Lviv, where they raised 45,000 UAH. Part of this amount was donated by !FESTrepublic, and the rest — by the Fund of Free and Caring, established on the basis of !FESTrepublic.
- The Ukrainian electronics retailer Techno Yizhak ran a special campaign and contributed 118,000 UAH to the project.
- During EdEra’s “Dovchylysia” event, an additional 62,210 UAH was raised.
- The brand [tsvite teren] created an exclusive piece of jewelry specifically for savED and raffled it off, bringing in 35,000 UAH for the Borodianka team.
- The remaining amount needed was covered by a donation from the American Councils in Ukraine.
